If you searched for Hougang Swimming Complex recently and found it closed, there is good news. The pool, Hougang Stadium and the rest of ActiveSG Hougang Sport Centre reopened at the end of May 2026 (on 30 May, as reported) after a major refresh. This guide covers what is there now, how the stadium links to Hougang United, and the other ways to keep active around Hougang Central, including near the upcoming LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences).
Hougang Swimming Complex: what’s there after the revamp

The swimming complex closed for renovation along with the rest of the sport centre, and reopened in May 2026. According to ActiveSG and reports of the reopening, the refreshed complex has:
- A competition pool for lap swimming and training.
- A new sheltered training pool with an all-weather design and ramp access, useful for swimming lessons in the rain and for less mobile swimmers.
- A refreshed children’s wading pool that now includes a water play feature.
- Upgraded toilets and changing rooms, with barrier-free access across the centre.
For opening hours, entry charges and lane availability, use the ActiveSG app or the ActiveSG facilities page. They change from time to time, and closures for maintenance or events are announced there first.
For parents, the sheltered training pool is the headline change at the Hougang swimming pool. Swimming lessons are a rite of passage for Singapore children, and a covered pool near home means fewer cancelled sessions when the afternoon rain arrives.
Hougang Stadium
Hougang Stadium is the outdoor heart of the sport centre. The revamp gave it a resurfaced running track, and ActiveSG lists new outdoor facilities around it: two adult fitness stations, two full basketball courts, a 3×3 basketball court and open space for free-to-play activities.
For residents, the stadium track is a practical place for a morning or evening run, especially if you want a measured distance. Access to the track can be restricted during school events, competitions or matches, so check ActiveSG before you go.
Hougang United and the stadium
Hougang Stadium is the traditional home ground of Hougang United, the Singapore Premier League club nicknamed the Cheetahs, which won the Singapore Cup in 2022. Since 2023, while Hougang Sport Centre was being redeveloped, the club has played its home games at Jalan Besar Stadium. The sport centre reopened in May 2026, but where home matches are played is a decision for the club and the league, so check the latest fixtures before heading down on match day.
Hougang Sports Centre: gym and sports hall
The indoor side of Hougang Sports Centre also received a major upgrade:

Pickleball has grown quickly in Singapore, and dedicated courts near home make it easier to join a regular game. Court bookings are made through ActiveSG.
Tips for using the sport centre
- Book through ActiveSG. Courts, gym entry and pool entry are managed through the ActiveSG app and website. Popular slots for courts, especially evenings and weekends, can go quickly, so book early.
- Swimming lessons. Lessons at public pools are usually run by coaches and swim schools who book lanes, as well as through ActiveSG programmes. Ask about class sizes and whether lessons use the sheltered pool.
- Accessibility. ActiveSG says the refreshed centre has barrier-free access throughout and accessible toilets with motorised hoists and changing beds, which helps families with elderly or less mobile members.
- Free-to-play spaces. The outdoor fitness stations and open areas around the stadium are there for casual use, a good option for a quick workout without a booking.
Sport for every age in Hougang
A refreshed town sport centre serves very different needs in one place. Young children can start in the wading pool and move on to lessons in the training pool. Teenagers have basketball courts, the running track and the sports hall. Working adults can fit in a gym session or an evening swim, and older residents have fitness stations, barrier-free routes and pickleball, a game many older players enjoy because it is social and easy to pick up. For a mature estate with many multi-generation households, that range is a real advantage. It also means a family can split up for an hour, with a swim for one, a gym session for another and a game of badminton for the rest, and still meet for dinner nearby.

The sport centre is the main public facility, but it is not the only option. Around Hougang Central you also have:

- Punggol Community Club. Near the Hougang Central site, with community classes and interest groups.
- Further afield: once the Cross Island Line opens (targeted around 2030), Bishan–Ang Mo Kio Park via Ang Mo Kio, three stops west, and Pasir Ris Park via Pasir Ris, three stops east.

The consortium behind the Hougang Central integrated development has highlighted Hougang Sports Centre and Punggol Community Club as nearby community amenities. For future residents of LinkTown Residences, that means a newly refreshed public pool, stadium, gym and sports hall close to home, in addition to whatever the condo itself provides.
The condo’s own facilities have not been announced, so don’t assume a particular pool size, gym or court. Public facilities matter most for things condos rarely offer: a full-size competition pool, a running track, pickleball and badminton courts, and organised programmes.
